Minnesota Statutes § 211B.045 governs campaign signs generally and provides that:
All noncommercial signs of any size may be posted in any number beginning 46 days before the state primary in a state general election year until ten days following the state general election. Municipal ordinances may regulate the size and number of noncommercial signs at other times.
However, your city may have ordinances restricting the number and size of campaign signs. If your city doesn't have a local ordinance, campaign signs may be posted in any size or any number. If your city does have a local ordinance, known that the state statue provides that campaign signs may be posted in any size or any number from 46 days before the state primary through 10 days following the state general election in an even year.
We have identified the following city ordinances that may apply to campaign signs:
- Deephaven (See references to "Political Signs" in code section 1115)
- Excelsior (See Sec. 24-5(2), generally deferring to state statute)
- Greenwood (no supplemental regulations identified)
- Long Lake (See Sec. 8-212, generally exempting signs in conformance with the state statute)
- Minnetonka
- Minnetonka Beach (no supplemental regulations identified)
